CPW’s United Preschool Center (UPC) hosted its Annual Autism Acceptance Celebration today as part of National Autism Acceptance Month. Families and friends joined the UPC students and staff at today's beautiful celebration which included the unveiling of the Tree of Friendship and Acceptance, a collaborative art project, an outdoor parade in the sunshine, and a performance by UPC music teacher Mark Pethtel, a musician and teaching artist from Shake, Rattle & Roll. Our beautiful Tree of Friendship and Acceptance was on display, designed and created by the students for all to admire. Butterflies were “purchased” through donations by family and friends to be hung on the tree on display in the UPC lobby. Teacher Donna Hysler led the design and decoration, and students from each classroom customized flowers to help the tree spring to life.
The United Preschool Center (UPC) located in White Plains offers an integrated learning experience for children with and without disabilities. Program administrators collaborate with various school districts throughout Westchester County, and UCP is an authorized Universal Full-Day Pre-Kindergarten program site for the White Plains School District. Within a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment, children grow together through integrated programs with activities designed to meet each child’s intellectual, physical and social needs. New York State budget talks are still ongoing and could be settled at any time over the next few weeks. Now, it is more important than ever that we use this time to make our voice heard. That’s why we’re doing everything we can to urge Governor Kathy Hochul and the State Legislature to #InvestInME by including true 3.2% cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) increase for the nonprofit I/DD service sector and Direct Support Wage Enhancement (DSWE) in the SFY 2025 Enacted Budget.
Please participate in the “One-Click” communication campaign and tell our State Officials to support the salaries for our DSP's and the services we provide for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. There is strength in numbers, so it is crucial that you participate. cpstate.org/advocacy/
