Our Day Treatment Program focuses on developing individualized service plans, building therapeutic oversight and enhancing daily life skills. Together with our trained staff, participants design and customize activities to meet their individual goals and interests. All of the services offered are result-oriented and focus on increasing the independence and full citizenship of each individual. The program also offers physical, speech and occupational therapies as well as social and psychological habilitation and recreation to adults age 18 and up who require specialized services. All services are geared towards increasing the independence and full citizenship of people with disabilities.
The Community Inclusion philosophy is that relationships are made when people see one another frequently. Individuals participating in Cerebral Palsy of Westchester’s adult day programs meet with friends in the community regularly to cultivate these relationships. Program participants travel to the same locations regularly, such as the local supermarket, hair salons, and restaurants. Additionally, associations are made in places like the public library and retail stores where participants shop and visit to form relationships, make purchases and enjoy conversation with people with whom they become familiar in a variety of settings.
This is a collaborative approach where the individual, his/her circle of support and day program staff plan a course of action for the individual’s future. Long term and short term goals are created based on the capabilities, strengths and preferences of the individual. The team creates a support system built around personal commitment and community involvement.
For participants on a job track towards competitive employment in the community. Each individual is evaluated in-house through our ACCES-VR certified staff. Our trained coaches provide job development, help with resume, support in adjusting to workplace setting, facilitate effective communication with supervisors and coworkers, and assistance with learning assigned tasks. These services are provided through ACCES-VR, ESEMP, and Supported Employment programs.
Social interaction is encouraged throughout the day. Participants engage in a variety of activities to socialize with their peers and staff, including recreational, educational, and sensory activities.
Participants take part in comprehensive training to increase their skills in using computers, money management, reading, current events, and more.
Participants enjoy the opportunity to visit the gym, participate in exercise groups, play Wii and X-Box, create art, walk, and compete against other agencies in baseball and basketball. They also participate in music with the music staff both in the classrooms and in a larger setting. Program participants enjoy the opportunity to participate in the swimming program during the summer months.
